A tax assessment from the Belastingdienst. Four paragraphs of formal Dutch: the amount to pay, the payment deadline and the interest charged if you are late are spread through the text. It takes time to understand; skipping it can be expensive.

Take a photo of the letter.
Use the camera or choose from your gallery; letters of up to six pages are supported. The text is recognised entirely on your phone, and this step needs no internet connection.
Covering
Your personal details are covered before they leave your phone.
Personal details such as your name, address, BSN and IBAN are covered automatically while they are still on your phone. You see the text that will be sent, and you can cover more parts if you like. Nothing is sent without your approval.
Processing
Only the covered text is processed.
The photo stays on your phone. The Letrin server passes the covered text to the AI model, sends the finished explanation back to your phone and closes the request. The text is neither stored nor used to train the model.

A draft reply, if you need one.
For an objection, a request to pay in instalments or a request for more time, Letrin writes a draft in the formal Dutch the organisation expects and shows the English next to it. You check the draft, change it and send it yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Is Letrin a translation app?
No. A translation only carries over the words; it does not tell you what to do. Letrin explains the letter: the sender, what is asked, the amount, the deadline, what happens if you are late and the steps you need to take. You can also read the same letter in another language.
Is the photo of my letter uploaded anywhere?
No. The text is read on your phone and the photo is deleted right after it is read. Only the covered text you approve is sent, and it is used only to write the explanation.
What happens to my name, my BSN and my IBAN?
They are found and covered while they are still on your phone; they are not in the text that is sent. Organisation names, amounts and dates stay so the explanation is right.
Do I have to create an account?
No. No registration, no login, no email address. Your history is kept only on your phone; delete the app and it goes with it.
Which languages are supported?
19 languages: English, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Persian, Hindi, Chinese, Indonesian and Vietnamese.
Does it work without internet?
Scanning and covering your personal details work completely offline. Only writing the explanation needs a connection. Reminders arrive without internet too.
Can the explanation be wrong?
It can. The explanation is written by an AI; a blurry photo or an unusual letter can be misread. Always check dates and amounts against the letter itself. Letrin does not give legal, financial or immigration advice.
