The problem
Official letters are hard, even for Dutch people
An envelope in your letterbox. Tax, insurance, a fine? You cannot tell until you open it. The language is formal, the words are heavy, and somewhere inside there is a deadline. Miss it and the next letter always costs more: extra charges, a bigger fine, a lost right to object.
You cannot read it
Translation apps translate words, not meaning. They will not tell you that "bezwaar" comes with a six-week deadline, or that "aanmaning" means extra charges.
You cannot leave it
In the Netherlands official business runs on deadlines. A letter left unanswered can turn a 40 euro fine into 120, and a small bill into a bailiff's file.
You cannot show it to just anyone
The letter has your name, your address, your BSN on it. Showing it to someone to understand it usually means showing those too.

Privacy
The photo never leaves your phone
Official letters are personal. That is why Letrin was built this way from the start: as much as possible happens on the phone, and the only thing that leaves is the text you have seen and approved.
The reading happens on the phone
The text is recognised on the phone itself. The photo is never uploaded anywhere and is deleted right after it is read.
Personal details are covered by themselves
Name, address, BSN, IBAN, phone number and reference numbers are found and covered before anything is sent.
You have the last word
There is a review screen that shows, word for word, the text that will leave. Nothing is sent before you approve it.
No copy is kept on the server
The explanation is written and that is the end of it. No copy of your letter is kept anywhere.
No account

The explanations you keep stay on your phone. One tap in the settings deletes all of them.
Reminders are also set up on the phone and work without internet. The data is processed inside the EU (the Netherlands).

What can Letrin translate?
Letrin translates and explains photographed letters: personal mail, bills, school notes, appointments, work letters and official post. It is designed around life in the Netherlands. Choose from 19 explanation languages.
Which languages are there?

Is the photo of my letter uploaded anywhere?
No. The text is read on the phone and the photo is deleted right afterwards. The only thing sent is the text you saw and approved on the review screen, and it is used only to write the explanation.
What does it cost?
The first three explanations are free on every phone. After that there is the Letrin Plus subscription (20 credits per 30 days) or credit packs of 1, 5 or 15 that never expire. Scanning and previewing is always free.
Does it work without internet?
Scanning and covering your personal details work completely offline. Only writing the explanation needs a connection. Reminders arrive without internet too.
Can the explanation be wrong?
It can. An AI writes the explanation; it can misread a blurry photo or misunderstand an unusual letter. Always check dates and amounts against the letter itself.
